Gugulethu Jazz Festival

See Mafikizolo, Mi Casa and more take to the stage at this first-ever township jazz affair!

Jazz-lovers and audiophiles are in for a treat when the inaugural Gugulethu Jazz Festival sounds off at the Gugulethu Stadium in Cape Town from Saturday, 2 to Sunday, 3 November 2013.

The live music affair was started in a bid to promote Gugulethu as a premier tourist destination and to not only showcase the diverse mix of vibrant people, food and cultures here, but to also provide a much-needed platform for small businesses, local musos and more.

Modelled on a similar format to the globally acclaimed Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), the two-day fiesta is set to feature some of the same big names who starred at this major fest, including Jimmy Dludlu, Mafikizolo and Mi Casa. Importantly, the musical celebration not only offers jazz-lovers a slew of top-notch performances, but also affords budding young musicians the opportunity to display their skill alongside some of Mzansi’s most celebrated artists.

During the course of the fiesta, patrons can also check out a car show where the latest models of brands like BMW and more will be on display. Otherwise, visitors can simply experience the colourful essence of Gugulethu and its residents through the arts, crafts and yummy eats on offer (of course, there’ll be a braai too). In addition, we’re told that festival-goers can do a little bit of celeb spotting too: actors from local soapies and TV shows along with Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will also attend this inaugural show.

Tickets for the 2013 Gugulethu Jazz Festival

Tickets for the festival are limited and are available via Computicket.com and Computicket outlets as well as at the gate on the day (depending on availability). Costs vary according to the ticket type (General Access or VIP) and where you purchase them (see below); do note, that the two-day passes are sold out.
