30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
In celebration of its owner Spatz Sperling’s 85th birthday, Delheim Wine Estate is hosting a morning trail run through its beautiful vineyards, now stripped bare by the icy hands of winter. The trail run takes place in the Simonsberg Conservancy on Sunday, 19 July 2015, and involves as much spiced wine as it does exercise.
The name Sperling means ‘swallow’, so it seems fitting to celebrate the surname of a great man with a run that involves flitting through the hills like a bird. If you don’t think you’re up to the 13km route then there’s an 8km option too. Both trails involve similar paths through the conservancy, with plenty of calf-burning climbs and fantastic vistas of the area on offer. All finishers get a medal, but there will be prizes for the first three men and women in each race so it’s worth giving it all you’ve got.
Tuck into some snacks from the conveniently positioned refreshment station at the finish line, or purchase some coffee, muffins and other breakfast titbits. If you’re planning on having lunch in the Winelands then why not book a table at the charming Delheim restaurant? Complement your meal with some delectable gluhwein and spend the remainder of the day relaxing with family and friends. Or, if you’re more in the mood for a massage, there’s an assortment of post-race pampering options available:
