Take in the colourful sights, savoury smells and lively sounds of the annual Festival of Chariots in Cape Town – an ancient, traditional Hindu celebration that is now held in major cities all over the world – on the Sea Point Promenade along Beach Road on Sunday, 18 December 2016.
Hosted in the Mother City by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, the festival features an impressive pageant during which festival-goers tow statues of the gods Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra on a brightly coloured wooden chariot. The hand-pulled vessel is surrounded by devotees singing and dancing, creating an energetic procession down the street.
This year the procession be followed by a FREE vegetarian meal. Patrons can visit the many stalls on the promenade and learn more about Vedic culture, get traditional mendhi body art and take part in yoga and meditation sessions. Children are invited to visit the kids corner where there will be plenty of activities and entertainment.
If you’re interested in Hindu celebrations or just looking to take part in a unique festival with its roots in ancient times, be sure not to miss this enchanting cultural extravaganza. If nothing else, it’s a fun opportunity to explore and appreciate a colourful culture different from your own.
So bring a celebratory attitude and be prepared to be wowed.

TICKETS FOR THE 2016 FESTIVAL OF THE CHARIOTS IN CAPE TOWN
Entry to the Festival of Chariots is absolutely FREE, so there is no excuse to miss out. The procession begins at 10am sharp.
