Jonathan Shapiro’s Mandela at the Jewish Museum in Cape Town

Not just another tribute to Nelson Mandela, this exhibition celebrates the life and contributions of South Africa’s greatest citizen, his struggle, successes and shortcomings, as portrayed by our country’s leading political cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro, better known as Zapiro.

Over 130 of Jonathan Shapiro’s works are on display tracing the life of Nelson Mandela from Prisoner to President to Pensioner.  “This exhibition is truly an inspiring romp through the first two decades of the New South Africa, as serialized in our media, by our greatest cartoonist, Jonathan Shapiro” says Andrew Goldman, the Jewish Museum’s Director.  “It is not possible to leave untouched by the contributions of Mandela and Shapiro, so different in their talent and yet both hugely influential in the shaping of the New South Africa.”

Sunday – Thursday @ 10:00 – 17:00 | Fridays @ 10:00 – 14:00
Adults @ R15p/p | Children @ Free

The South African Jewish Museum, in the Company’s Garden was opened by Nelson Mandela and “is one of the most imaginatively designed and interesting of the city’s museums” according to Lonely Planet guidebooks.
