Design Now!

Cape Town's foremost lifestyle centre celebrates local creative flair

Following on the success of its inaugural Design Now! event the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village will celebrate its anniversary with a week of design-inspired exhibits, pop-up galleries, events and themed installations from 27th October to the 5th November 2011.

In a coup for the lifestyle destination, leading interior stylist, Tracy Lynch, has curated the event; blending creativity and retail in a series of themed installations, which weave in elements and objects from selected retailers in the centre. Themes such as Designer Nature, Culture Clash and Old School, New School explore contemporary décor/design objects with a fresh and interesting eye.

Highlights

Some of the highlights of this year’s installment include Jaque Erasmuses’ hanging gardens, raw kudu hide creations, handmade bathroom displays, an Airstream interior decorating challenge, Francois Van Reenen’s pop sculpture exhibition, an exhibition tracing the journey of kitchen design, Lisa King Gallery abstract contemporary exhibition and emerging young designers present twenty themed chairs.

Throughout Design Now! there will be chocolate promotions by Lindt and Sprungli, coffee tastings from Lavassa a Modo Mio and live music by Coda and Carly Nauta.

Workshops

Design Now! will also celebrate with South African author Neil Stemmet as he launches his book, Sout en Peper. Guests will taste Khoisan salt, Nigiro tea and bread and butter at the event.

Multi-media artist and designer, Karen Suskin, will give two interactive workshops, during which she will explore different modes of creative thinking that contemplate fundamental shifts in viewing the world to find more integrated ways of expressing design in the future.

Saturday 29 October, 10am to 3.30pm | Workshop 1: Inspired by Nature – Enlivening Thinking

Saturday 5 November, 10am to 3.30pm | Workshop 2: ‘I’ as Aspect of the Built Environment

Live music by CODA and Electric Violinist Carly Nauta will entertain the crowds till 21:00 on Wednesday 2 November and Peroni Fridays will attract a buzz on both Friday evenings, visitors are advised to book a table at their favourite Cape Quarter restaurant.

Cost: R350 p/p per workshop
