EDRO Robotics Holiday Workshops

Let your kids experience the fun side of science with a robot-building course

Keep your kids busy these school holidays with an incredible course that teaches them the fundamentals of coding and computer programming while letting them be creative and innovative. The EDRO (Education Robots) Robotics workshops that take place during the festive holidays are educational and practical - using the basics of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) to equip your kids with vital knowledge. The workshops are two days long and take place at the Woodstock Exchange. Bookings can be made online via Quicket.co.za and spaces are limited so bag a spot soon.

The inspiring and enlightening courses will teach youngsters valuable 21st century skills such as computer programming and coding, allowing them to build their very own robots that will be able to perform simple tasks. First and foremost, the robotics workshops are fun-filled experiences so even kids who don’t enjoy maths and science will be able to take part and develop their problem-solving skills.

But why robotics you might ask? According to EDRO, robotics is a practical and appealing way for young people to learn about STEM and the real-life applications of the subjects. Not to mention, not only does robotics offer a visual grasp of science and maths but it also helps to develop innovation and creativity, teamwork and communication, logical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as self-management – all vital skills for children to learn, especially in their younger years.

TYPES OF EDRO ROBOTICS HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

EDRO is offering two two-day workshops during the April school holidays, aimed at kids and teenagers.

1. Robotics 101 for Juniors (9-12 Years)

This course introduces children to the world of coding and computer programming. The workshops are practical, educational and exciting where kids will play games and solve problems using GUI (Graphical User Interface) coding. The children will be able programme their own S2 Robots and watch them complete a number of ‘weird and wonderful tasks’ such as drawing shapes and escaping mazes. This two-day course runs for four hours per day and warrants no prior experience of robotics.

  • Dates: Monday, 3 and Tuesday, 4 April 2017; Monday, 10 and Tuesday, 11 April 2017
  • Length: Two days | Eight hours
  • Time: 9am to 1pm
  • Cost: R650p/p (single booking) or R590p/p (two or more bookings)

2. Robotics 101 for Teens (13-16 Years)

This course is aimed at older children, as the hands-on tasks are a little more complex. Having said that, there is no requirement for this course in terms of robotic experience. The workshop will explore the fundamentals of programming and electronics, as well as teach them how to control circuits with the Arduino Microcontroller.

  • Date: Wednesday, 5  and Thursday, 6 April 2017
  • Length: Two days | Eight hours
  • Time: 9am to 1pm
  • Cost: R650p/p (single booking) or R590p/p (two or more bookings)

BOOKINGS FOR THE 2017 EDRO ROBOTICS HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS
