Many people are more than willing to get involved with a good cause for Mandela Day, but often have no idea how to best spend their 67 minutes. The good folk at No Danger Diaries have a joyful plan – to dance, jive and spread some happiness this International Nelson Mandela Day, on Saturday, 18 July 2015.
The No Danger Diaries team are celebrating Madiba in a way that truly reflects his spirit this year, and would like you to get involved in one of two ways:
Firstly, visit their website at Danceformadiba.co.za to make a donation and to upload a video of you dancing the Madiba shuffle. They will send you a 67 second music clip as the backing track for your bop, as well as a 67 minute jive mix that you can dance to on the day. These videos will be compiled to create the greatest Madiba jive tribute in the world.
Secondly, you are free to take part in the events happening at various allocated dance stations in Cape Town as No Danger Diaries aims to jive for 67 hours straight, with your help. More information about these dance stations will be released on their Facebook page.
Co-founder of No Danger Diaries Daniel Cameron Becker explained that; “We were all really tired of seeing misery in the media and wasted energy on misguided campaigns, so we thought this is the perfect time to celebrate; to celebrate the life of the great Tata Madiba, to celebrate the beauty of all our people, to just bring a positive vibe to our country, and what better way than to get everyone together through dance.”
The crew at No Danger Diaries are aiming to dance for 67 hours to spread the joy whilst raising funds for the Nelson Mandela Foundation and setting a new world record in the process. “When we were planning for Mandela Day, we wanted to share our time beyond the 67 minutes and we wanted to do something that everyone could get involved in. When we thought about doing 67 hours of dance instead of 67 minutes we were like, ‘that’s a No Danger task right there!’”, said co-founder Grant Ross.
If you were born with two left feet and would rather not dance, but would still like to do something special for Mandela Day then why not donate some reading books for underprivileged children? This is part of Collect-a-Can’s Mandela Day initiative, Collect-a-Book.
GET INVOLVED IN THE 2015 DANCE FOR MADIBA WITH NO DANGER DIARIES
