Guess what arty party people! It’s Art Week in Cape Town! If that makes you bristle like a paintbrush (in a good way) then best you clear your creative agenda from Tuesday, 16, until Sunday, 21 February 2016. From exhibitions and special projects to panel discussions, walkabouts with the artists and public performance art pieces, this is the ideal showcase of the artistic life force running through this inspiring city of ours.
Aiming to highlight the various facets of the contemporary art scene, whilst also making art accessible and affordable, Art Week is an inclusive celebration that takes place at various locations around the city. It also coincides with the Cape Town Art Fair and That Art Fair – two growing events which attract both foreign and local art lovers and collectors.
This year’s agenda features a series of performance art and architecture narratives called Live Architecture sessions, in connection with the Off Plan International collective. This series delves into specific architectural sites through interactive situation-responsive performance pieces that question our relationship with these spaces. The audience will experience new areas outside their comfort zones and will have the opportunity to explore and interrogate these realms in a thought-provoking and conceptual manner.
