Cape Winemakers Guild Auction Showcase

Sip and sample exceptional wines from South Africa’s most esteemed producers

Wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts are in for a real treat as members of the lauded Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) are once again set to showcase rare, limited edition reds and whites at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Thursday, 18 August 2016 ahead of the annual Nedbank Winemakers Guild Auction.

Along with sampling the unique wines crafted especially for the prestigious auction that takes place in October each year, grape fanatics will be able to sip on many other acclaimed flagship products created by Guild members. The 45-odd vintners of the society, who will all be at the interactive walk-around tasting to showcase their wares, jointly represent the very best of South African wine production, with the Guild benchmarking over 30 years of excellence. Can’t make it? You can still sip and swirl excellent reds and whites thanks to our endless information on wine tasting in Cape Town and surrounds.

The vintages on offer at the showcase must, by CWG decree, be distinct from each winemaker’s regular label and must undergo strict chemical and microbiological analysis to ensure the absence of technical defects. Needless to say, tasters can look forward to enjoying truly unique small-batch wines.

Attendees will also get the chance to bid on rare vinos during a silent auction in aid of the Nedbank CWG Development Trust. Founded in 1999, the Development Trust aims to provide education and training to youth from wine farming communities and also includes the Guild’s Protégé Programme, which is a mentorship scheme for young, up-and-coming winemakers.

ABOUT THE CAPE WINEMAKERS GUILD
The CWG is a tremendously exclusive organisation made up of only those with the finest industry pedigrees. Started in 1982 by eight enthusiastic winemakers eager to share their knowledge in hopes of creating stand-out South African wines, the guild has grown over the years (it celebrated its 30th birthday in early 2012) to include a host of experts from an assortment of disciplines: port-style specialists, those well-versed in the production of Method Cap Classique, sustainable farm industry leaders and more. Members are added by invitation only, and invitation is only extended to those who have been producing outstanding wines for five years or more and who have displayed superior craftsmanship.

Tickets for the exclusive wine tasting are available online via Webtickets.co.za and cost R250p/p. The showcase starts at 6pm. The annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction takes place on Saturday, 1 October 2016 at the Spier Conference Centre in Stellenbosch.
