Cancelled Due to Drought: 2017 Cape Town Flower and Garden Show

The show has been put on hold until this time next year

Please note: Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled in respect of the drought currently affecting the Mother City. The Cape Town Flower Show has, as a result, been pushed to October 2018 at GrandWest. Show director Karey Evett states that, “The landscaping industry (needs) time to adapt to the crisis (and find methods of) garden design that would not put any strain on our water reserves.” and that it is important that the organisation demonstrates responsibility by working to save water. Events and Entertainment Manager of GrandWest, Gavin Taylor, supports the cancellation, saying that it is in line with the establishment’s “Commitment to being water-wise and sustainable in all (its) operations”.

"Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature." Gerard De Nerval

If the colourful corolla of a budding St Joseph’s lily causes you to pause, in awe of the beauty and perfection of the sequential whorls then you need to get your green-fingered self to the Castle of Good Hope from Thursday, 27, to Sunday 30 October 2016 to witness the annual Cape Town Flower Show.

All about gardens and gardening, the bright and beautiful lifestyle fair showcases the latest planting trends and top tips, along with useful décor and design ideas for outdoor living. Aside from learning to create serene outdoor sanctuaries, there’ll also be a selection of local food and craft beer on offer to keep gifted (and aspiring) gardeners well fed. Whether you’re ready to win the Chelsea Flower Show or you struggle to keep a cactus alive, there’s something for everyone at this green affair.

Expect a selection of jaw-dropping show gardens, along with sterling examples of the art of floristry, a special display of the use of flowers in art, various horticultural exhibits, and a smorgasbord of nurseries and seeds to kick start your garden growing or embellish your existing terrain. You can also get top tips from local experts, and take part in some of the numerous workshops happening throughout the four days, including planting, bio mimicry, orchid care, flower arranging and more.

Let us introduce to you – the High Tea Talks. These educational talks will cover everything from farming at home and growing your own veggies to tales of a gardener from the Chelsea Flower Show. Hosted at the Castle of Good Hope in one of the beautiful rooms overlooking the garden, these talks are only R500p/p and they include a selection of food, a glass of bubbly and plenty of tea. Each talk is approximately one hour in duration, and tickets can be purchased at Computicket.com. Here is the programme for the High Tea Talks:
