30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
The Barnyard Theatre’s musical spectacular returns to pay tribute to past legends who continue to infect pop culture today. From Tuesday, 21 April to Sunday, 31 May 2015, Thank You for the Music (the name of the show is a play on the popular tune) delivers pitch perfect renditions of 60s, 70s and 80s songs by icons ABBA, the Bee Gees and the incomparable Queen at the Willowbridge theatre in Tygervalley.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE BARNYARD THEATRE’S THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC TRIBUTE SHOW
Hop into the Barnyard Theatre’s time machine for a trip back to when music made sense and fashion didn’t; in short, get ready for a glitzy and glam show featuring of some of the world’s greatest pop tunes!
To kick off this nostalgic journey, the 11-piece cast is billed to belt out hits from the early days of the Bee Gees, including memorable soft-rock tunes like ‘Words’, I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You’, ‘Massachusetts’ and ‘To Love Somebody’. Afterward, the scene shifts to the famous falsetto tracks that propelled the trio of British brothers to stardom and their status as pop icons during the disco-era. Expect songs like ‘You Should Be Dancing’, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ and ‘Jive Talking’.
From there, the show swings into 70s Swedish pop ensemble ABBA’s earlier groovy tunes, like ‘Ring Ring’ and ‘Waterloo’. By this time the audience is bound to be bouncing in their seats to the songs that still dominate soundtracks, movies and musicals.
The fun doesn’t stop there though; get ready to sing along to anthems like ‘Chiquitita’, ‘SOS’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Take a Chance on Me’ as well as ‘The Winner Takes it All’ and ‘Eagle’.
By this time, the show has edged closer to the grand finale: a tribute to one of the world’s greatest rock bands of all time: Queen. This impressive display goes on to embrace the showmanship and flair of Freddie Mercury and his crew with covers of the feel-good number ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ as well as the thought-provoking ballad ‘Too Much Love Will Kill You’. Everyone’s favourite anthem ‘We Are the Champions’ is sure to resonate through the hall, and popular hits like ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ and ‘The Show Must Go On’ are bound to add an exhilarating air of flamboyance to the act.
These are just a few of the songs you can expect to hear during this show, so dust off those greatest hits CDs and start preparing for a performance you’re not likely to forget.
