A Kilo of Mussels at Den Anker

Yes, you read that right; one whole kilogram of mussels per person

Fresh seafood is a delicious perk of living by the ocean. Cape Town offers not only sensational views of the big blue sea, but also delectable treats fished straight from our famous waters. Few venues take their appreciation of seafood to the same level that Den Anker at the V&A Waterfront does with their menu featuring tuna, salmon, kingklip, oysters, prawns, lobster and more.

On Saturday, 29 July 2017 Den Anker are – for one day only – running an extraordinary special; one kilogram of mussels and multiple wine tastings for only R260p/p. That’s a whole lot of mussels for not-a-whole-lot of money. Warm up your winter with an afternoon of fresh and flavourful seafood paired with local wines and awesome live music.

The Den Anker Ultra Mussels Wine Celebration will also see one of the most interesting contests we’ve heard of! Winemakers under the age of 40 will take on winemakers over the age of 40 in a contest of all things wine; processes, tasting, science and all the flavour.

Mark Norrish, general manager of the wine division at Ultra Liquors, personally selects the team for the competition. The over-40 team will be presenting wines from Saronsberg Cellar, Van Loveren Wine Farm, Vondeling Wines, Kanonkop Wine Estate, Ormonde Wines and Beyerskloof. The under-40 team will present wines from Haute Cabriere, Delaire Graff Estate, Simonsig, Nederburg Wines, Glenelly Estate and Graham Beck.

As the mussels are collected on the day (you won’t get seafood fresher than that people), the organisers have even put a contingency plan in place in case the weather turns. If the clouds come through and the mussel harvesting has to stop, Den Anker will replace the mussels with an alternative dish in the same amount. Keep your fingers crossed for the right weather!

On the day you can look forward to deliciously flavourful mussels, a free wine glass and tastings from all of the farms listed above! There will also be a lovely momento of the day to take home with you.
