The term "Impressionism" conjures up images of exquisite artworks, from
the vivid or misty landscapes of Monet and Manet to the familiar
figures of Degas and Renoir.
On 14 September at 18:00 at the Old Town House in Greenmarket Square,
Dr Hans Fransen presents an illustrated talk on "World Impressionism"
in which he discusses the movement's inauspicious beginnings, its
burgeoning popularity and spread through Europe and into America, and
the distinctive characteristics assumed on different continents. The
movement thrives to this day.
Hosted by Friends of Michaelis Collection, the event is R25 for members; R35 for non-members, including refreshments.
