Aside from all the festive season trimmings lighting up the streets of Cape Town, another city tradition prepares to fill the inner-city roadways with groups of fancy-dressed revellers. That’s right folks, it’s time to walk, jog, gallop, skip, crawl or zombie shuffle your way through the streets of the Mother City as part of the Twilight Team Run on Tuesday, 6 December 2016. The much-anticipated calendar highlight celebrates its 34th birthday this year.
In support of the Community Chest of the Western Cape, the fun walk – and its 10 000-plus fun walkers – weaves its way from the Grand Parade through the side streets of the CBD and back to the starting point again in roughly 90 minutes. Prior to the festive saunter, a dress-up competition will be held at 5:30pm, and afterwards merrymakers are invited to party to some of Cape Town’s top radio DJs at the Twilight Festival on the Grand Parade.
This year’s proceeds from the event will be invested in education, with the intent of equipping thousands of scholars who are about to enter the 2017 school year.

HOW THE 2016 TWILIGHT TEAM RUN IN CAPE TOWN WORKS
Putting the F-U-N back into fun walk, the Twilight Team Run encourages participants to band together in groups and dress up in crazy, kooky outfits. In the past, everything from superheroes and Afro clowns to Golden Arrow buses and Hawaiian hula girls have taken to the streets of the Mother City to rally around a good cause.
That said, it’s not necessary to tackle the Twilight Run as a team; individuals are also welcome as participants, as are multiple groups running under the same banner or theme.
What’s more, this charity event has become a popular end-of-year office affair so encourage your colleagues to join you in having some fun while making a difference. The Twilight Team Run officially kicks off at 7pm, but it’s best to arrive by 5pm to either take part or simply check out the best dressed competition.
