Six years ago Ruud de Clercq and Patrick Julius started making wine at Kingsriver Wine Estate. Their first vintage was a ruby cabernet and cabernet sauvignon blend. They ended up with two barrels of the ruby cabernet left over, which they decided to keep in the barrels for another year. They bottled this blend in 2007 and left the bottles unlabelled for the time being.
These unmarked bottles got tidied away by one of their cellar workers in a bout of spring cleaning and they thought the bottles had been lost forever. Luckily due to their other stock selling out quickly they rediscovered this well-aged wine. They were blown away by the Ruby Cabernet 2005.
They now offer this deliciously smooth wine in their restaurant so pay them a visit quickly to get your hands on one of the 200 bottles or take advantage of the special one night stay in the guesthouse including dinner with a bottle of this special blend plus breakfast for just R1999 for two people sharing. You will also have the opportunity to experience one of Ruud’s informative wine tastings. With its 380 hectares of magnificent unspoiled, unique Karoo fynbos this is a great weekend getaway, only a morning’s drive from Cape Town, between McGregor and Robertson.
Give Kingsriver Wine Estate a call to make a booking, offer only valid while stocks last.
