Discover the fauna and flora of Cape Floral Kingdom during a unique wine tasting in the Stellenbosch winelands on a a wine drive safari at Waterford Estate. See how the grapes are grown and taste wines such as the Waterford Estate’s sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, as well as the Kevin Arnold Shiraz, and the top of the range: The Jem. All while exploring the vines.
A safari type game-viewing Landrover has been fitted out with bucket seats (maximum of 10 per trip) to take guests around the 120ha property. It‘s situated on the slopes of the beautiful Helderberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch region – the undisputed wine capital of South Africa. For around two hours you will go on a drive through the vineyards, with tastings of the wines taking place on the soil where the grapes are grown.
The Cape is home to the largest and most spectacular concentration of flowers and plants found anywhere on earth and Waterford Estate intends to play a small role in preserving the Cape Floral Kingdom by leaving sections of the property untouched, while showing guests some of the Cape’s natural beauty in the beautiful Blaauwklippen (blue stone) valley. As part of their biodiversity program, they wish to show visitors their intensions in terms of sustainable agriculture, since they’re aiming to achieve an organic approach to wine-farming.
Out in the vineyards, guests can learn first-hand about terroir; and smell the soil and rocks in which the vines grow, while enjoying the beautiful vistas, geography and topography of the Cape Winelands. At certain lookout points, insights about the 350-year history of South African winemaking will be offered, all while taking in the view of Table Mountain and Constantia, where it all started in 1652.
Waterford Estate knows the best tastes in life, visit them for a wine and chocolate pairing.
Please contact the estate to make a booking: call Tom on +27 (0)21 880 0496 or email bookings@waterfordestate.co.za.
