For two nights, Real Wired Music - in association with Sedgwick’s Old Brown - brings you some of South Africa’s best folk and acoustic talent: the second Cape Town Folk ‘n Acoustic Music Festival is set to strum up something of a party at the Fugard Theatre on Friday, 10 and Saturday, 11 August 2012.
Styled according to the folk concerts of the 70s, the stage and the set-up features artists performing either solo or duet sets completely acoustically and in an intimate setting. Stripped down to only voices and instruments, the musicians are required to pay more attention to detail, to push their vocal limit and to enthrall audiences with the integrity of pure performance (not all the special effects and cacophony of background noise).
As was the case in the festival’s inaugural year at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the artists’ story-telling journeys look to resonate with both folk fanatics and music lovers of all ages.
Audiences can look forward to meeting Larry Joe, the convicted criminal and gang member who found his salvation in music and recorded his first solo album behind bars at Douglas Correctional Centre in the Northern Cape; as well as Cape Town born Joshua Grierson, an artist who has been in the music industry for over ten years and who recently decided to pursue a solo career - much to fans delight. Grierson is described by one of his fans, “Looks like Freddy [Mercury], dances like Elvis [Presley] and sounds like Dylan [Bob]”. Additionally, self-taught musician and producer Tina Schouw, a performer who has worked both locally and internationally since the 80s, is a singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from all over the show.
Line-up for the Cape Town Folk and Acoustic Music Festival, 10 to 11 August 2012
Tickets are available through Computicket.com and are R160p/p.
