The 2012 Bosman Wine Release on Heritage Day

Celebrate South Africa’s heritage with the official launch of fine Wellington reds and whites

Ring in Heritage Day on Monday, 24 September 2012 with a sampling of sterling new vintages at the annual Bosman Wine Release, held at the Bosman Family Vineyards’ historic estate, Lelienfontein, in Wellington.

This exclusive launch will, first and foremost, take the form of a ‘tasting journey’ held in the winery’s centuries-old cellar, during which visitors can sample the latest additions to the Bosman range alongside carefully-paired canapés. And if such small mouth-watering morsels only ignite a healthy appetite, an al fresco lunch of various decadent dishes and barbequed bites (Heritage Day is, after all, more popularly known as ‘National Braai Day’) will be served under grand oaks on the farm’s rolling lawns.

More specifically (and for the wine connoisseurs among us), guests can look forward to the official release of innovative cuvée the Bosman Erfenis 2010 (a winner in the 2011 Perold ABSA Cape Blend competition), the Bosman Pinotage 2010 and the Bosman Optenhorst Chenin Blanc 2011.

And as the 18th-century farm – it boasts a hearty slice of heritage itself – is well known for producing flavourful, boutique-style wines that adhere to exceptionally high standards, this most recent generation of vintages is sure to continue its legacy of superior quality.

Though, the release certainly entails more than just fine wines and fresh cuisine. Because honouring history is paramount on this special occasion, the winery will also be using the tasting session to offer guests insight into the intriguing process of vine grafting, an activity that has formed a prominent part of their past. Lead by representatives from the Lelienfontein vine nursery, this educational display is sure to be as entertaining as it is informative.

What’s more, for those more serious industry enthusiasts – and, more specifically, for delegates attending the Cape Wine 2012 trade show, which starts the following day – a formal tasting and theatre session will  also accompany the day’s other offerings. With Bosman’s esteemed winemaker Corlea Fourie and Managing Director Petrus Bosman at the helm, this focussed tutorial will discuss relevant trends, innovations and fair trade initiatives.

Despite its refined guise and its focus on sophisticated sampling, though, the launch is, in fact, a rather informal family-friendly affair, and children are not only welcome but accommodated for; that is, experienced on-site crèche staff will care for and entertain little ones while parents sip and swirl away.

Tickets for the 2012 Bosman Wine Release (including lunch, the various events and sampling sessions involved) are available through Computicket at R300 per person (children enter for free). Interested parties are encouraged to act quickly, though, as places are limited to 250 people.
