South Africa VS Pakistan Cricket Test Series

The Proteas battle it out against the Green Shirts at one of the best grounds in the country

Our boys in green and white take on a formidable Pakistan side in a five-day cricket test series at Sahara Park Newlands starting on Thursday, 14 February and ending on Monday, 18 February 2013.

It goes without saying that, having recently thrashed New Zealand and, before that, with wins over all of the top cricket-playing countries in the world, our number one-ranked Proteas are more than up to the task; with an intimidating set of bowlers, a stable and deep-batting line-up and a relentless attack, South Africa is heavily favoured to stay on top.   

As the highest hanging fruit, however, our side might prove to be ripe for the picking for powerful Pakistan, who beat high-flying (and previously number one-ranked) India last year in January. The Green Shirts stand in fourth place in the official ICC ranking – a place above India - but have a fairly hit-or-miss record when it comes to test matches: having suffered embarrassing losses to teams ranked lower than them, like Sri Lanka, more than once. Pakistan, whose last test was a long seven months ago, only played a five-day series on our soil in 2007, which the Proteas won 2-1. Needless to say, they may be a bit rusty.  

Still, Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan’s opening batsman and a right-arm off-spin bowler) has openly stated that he is more than up for the challenge, and he backs his boys through and through..

"We have faced tough challenges before and will do that again," he said boldly.

That said, lead by Captain Graeme Smith, the Proteas are functioning like a well-oiled machine, and seem ready to let rip at Newlands.

All in all though, there are few better ways to spend summer in Cape Town than watching a thrilling game at one of the most beautiful cricketing grounds in the nation.

All five days of the SA vs PAK cricket test series are slated to start at 10:30am; close of play – as it’s dependent on light and weather - will be determined by the umpires.

• Alcohol or Illegal Substances
• Cans (soft drinks / alcohol) 
• Braai Equipment/Skottels/Webber Braais (no open fires allowed) 
• Animals/Pets
• Bicycles, skateboards, scooters
• Balls (soccer/rugby/etc) 
• Video cameras and non-accredited media equipment (i.e. professional photographic or recording equipment) 
• Airhorns/Vuvuzelas/Blowhorns/Kutuzelas
• No musical instruments
• Any mass branded clothing or items which constitute ambush marketing
• Banners/flags with derogatory text or drawings
• Oka Pipes
• Unofficial merchandise with the intention to trade within the grounds
