Rock out in points and with pirouettes at “Queen at the Ballet” at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town from Wednesday, 8 to Saturday, 18 August 2012.
You’d be forgiven for thinking this is a ballet production paying regal homage to the life of Her Majesty the Queen; rather, it’s an athletic rock ballet capturing the spirit and the sounds of royal rocker Freddie Mercury and his band, Queen.
Yes dear readers, who wants to live forever when you can be immortalised through ballet, the grand dance of the elite?
Bovim Ballet productions delivers a high-impact performance primed to entertain all ages. Packed with innovative and original choreography and powerful performances from the strong cast of dancers, this production will whisk you through the life of the great pretender, Freddie Mercury, and will feature over 20 of his greatest hits.
Henk Opperman, cast in the lead as Freddie, and the rock icon’s lovers - portrayed by Devon Marshbank, Tanya Futter, Nicola van der Merwe and Faye Dubinski - are set to wow audiences with tender pas de deux (a ballet term meaning steps for two) alongside, and the foot-stomping beats of Queen’s exciting rock numbers are intermingled amidst the enthralling dance. Not to mention, Michael Hankinson’s orchestral arrangement of Queen’s music is only enhanced by the live gymnastic vocals of CITO from WONDERboom fame.
Get rocking with “Queen at the Ballet” for a dance and live music extravaganza like no other.
Tickets range from R150p/p to R180p/p with students and pensioners getting a 10% discount on ticket prices. Tickets are available through Computicket.com.
