This farce-within-a-farce about actors acting as actors acting characters is a theatrical joyride, hailed by New York Times critic Frank Rich when Noises Off first opened, as "one of the most sustained slapstick ballets I've ever seen."

The phrase "noises off" is theatre jargon for a commotion offstage. But in Noises Off, the commotion is onstage, created by a troupe of has-been and never-were actors touring in a British sex farce appropriately entitled Nothing On.

Noises Off is perhaps one of the most well known of British comedies.
