Make Way for Noddy at the Artscape

Let Toyland’s most lovable ‘toon take away the school holiday blues for tots stuck indoors

Noddy, the wooden boy with the red and yellow car from Toyland, along with friends Big Ears, Mr Plod and others are coming to entertain the little ones for the June school holidays in Cape Town (from Saturday, 28 June to Saturday, 12 July 2014) at the Artscape theatre foyer.

Based on the children’s story series by Enid Blyton and directed by Cheryl Abromowitz, the performance explores the Toyland taxi driver’s origin story.

As the tale goes, old man Carver crafts a little wooden toy, a boy whose head bobs when he talks. But the boy is lonely and decides to run away. Along his journey, he runs into a brownie called Big Ears, who escorts him to Toyland. Once in the magical land of the playthings, Mr Plod, the forthright policeman, asks “Who is this little boy and where does he comes from? Only toys can stay in Toyland.”

After the characters debate whether or not to allow Noddy into Toyland, it falls to the audience members to decide the wooden boy’s fate.

This beloved character and his friends have been entertaining children for many generations in books and on television, and their on-stage antics are bound to beat away school kids’ stuck-indoors blues. Not to mention, before the show there will be face painting, colouring-in and more for the kids.

Tickets for Make Way for Noddy at the Artscape cost R70p/p and are available at Computicket.com or at Computicket outlets and at the Artscape Box Office by calling +27 (0)21 421 7695. It is advised to book tickets beforehand. The show is on daily at 10:30am except on Sundays.
