South Africa’s party of the year and best gay party in the world. That is the Mother City Queer Party, or MCQP as we all know it. A legendary creative get together of anything and anyone and is touted as THE event to be in any Gay Guide in the world.

Now in its 19th year, the 2011 MCQP, happening on Saturday 17 December, is one Cape Towns biggest parties of the summer and the highlight on the Gay map of Cape Town . It has been compared to international events in Sydney, London and San Francisco. Every year features a different theme, with this year’s theme being ‘Maid in China’.

The “Maid in China” theme plays on the house maid theme as well as a homage to the plastic mass-produced items we all know and recognize, combined with Chinese culture. Expect teams of marvelous moffie maids, dustpan dykes, hao kan heteros, sexy sequined straights, kung fu pandas, Bruce Lee Barbie's, or plastic fantastics. Cape Town’s sexiest gay boys and most spectacular ladies let it all hang out with their friends.

Creativity is the name of the game, and the more spectacular the outfit, the greater the fun. The 2011 MCQP theme leaves much for interpretation. Some teams can be 20 people or more – expect many Gayshas and boys in kihomos!

It’s arguably the Mother City’s biggest party in December with a huge line up from Cabaret shows to psy trance and whole lot in between.
