Jonny Bud and Friends at Obviouzly Armchair
Join 7th Son vocalist Nic Gaud for an evening of musical storytelling in Observatory
Obviouzly Armchair brings you Jonny Bud and Friends – the solo project from 7th Son vocalist Nic Gaud - on Saturday, 18 August 2012.
–In sharp contrast to the rock-n-roll antics of Gaud’s full ensemble, the gig features a collection of storytelling acoustic rhythms in a camp-fire style with folk reggae undertones and socio-political commentary. His project incorporates a vast range of influences, and his songs are stripped to the very core, allowing room for the listeners’ imaginations to soar free.
The venue, Obviouzly Armchair, runs as a backpackers and a pub, and is just as bohemian as the Che Guevara-looking front man from Jonny Bud. It is situated in the heart of the most ‘gypsy-esque’ suburb of Cape Town – Observatory – and is haphazardly swathed in eclectic decor and (to no one’s great surprise) a thoroughly authentic throwback-from-the-past feel; the vibe owes much to the musical heritage of the place, as the pub was once long ago the launch pad of some of South Africa’s most successful bands.
This intellectually stimulating, acoustic massage will cost you R20p/p at the door and kicks off at 8.30 pm.
