Johnson’s Baby Sense Seminar

Prepare yourself for parenthood with this incredibly informative seminar in Newlands

Mother City moms and pops and soon-to-be parents can get the latest information on raising little ones at the 2015 Johnson’s Baby Sense Seminar at The Vineyard Hotel in Newlands on Saturday, 22 August 2015.

This yearly series of interactive workshops and informative talks, ideal for both new and expecting mothers and fathers, features a handful of industry professionals and experts who will tackle a broad spectrum of subject matter ranging from  when to call the doctor and stimulating your little one to sleep training and bonding with your newborn.

Somewhat of a crash course for those still feeling a bit ‘up the creek’, the Baby Sense talks act as a valuable tool that can help re-establish bearings and open support networks.

The seminar will take place on Saturday, 22 August and will run from 8:30am to 5pm.

SCHEDULE & OVERVIEW FOR THE 2015 BABY SENSE SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP

THE MORNING BIRTH AND NEWBORN SEMINAR (8:30am – 12pm R240p/p): The morning seminar is aimed at new parents with babies and toddlers up to 18 months, and includes a number of a talks, Q&A sessions and more. Well-known mid-wife and antenatal expert Tina Otte will chat to future moms and dads, offering insight into the amazing abilities of newborns and just how imperative skin-on-skin contact is to both parent and child right after childbirth. Later, Dr Welma Lubbe will cover a session titled ‘From Womb to World’, where she will talk about any health concerns as well as give attendees information on how to make the transition smooth for both mama and baba. Sr Ann Richardson will also be on hand to give a talk on newborn basics, for sleepless parents and exhausted little tots.

THE JOHNSON’S BABY MASSAGE WORKSHOP (12:15pm – 1:15pm R60p/p): This workshop teaches parents how the simple act of touch can foster a positive self-esteem in their little ones. Here, audiences will not only be given more information on the topic, but will also be taught some simple massage skills.

THE AFTERNOON YOUR BABYSEMINAR (1:30pm – 5:30pm R240p/p): Essential for parents with babies up to 12 months, the country’s leading baby and parenting experts will share their top tips for happy babes. Kate Bailey, a well-known occupational therapist, will discuss ‘Stimulating Your Baby ’ and give advice on how to properly get your little one ready for each developmental stage using stimulation. Dr Ann Richardson will then chat about the sleep and how to set a schedule to ensure that your baby (and you) get those essential hours in. Finally, Lizanne du Plessis discusses the brave mom toolkit and what some truly exceptional mothers have in their arsenal to continue being the best kind of parent to their child (while not forgetting themselves).
