Infecting the City 2011

Get Infectious…

Presented by The Africa Centre, this out-of-the-ordinary public arts festival places provocative, innovative art in the communal spaces of the City’s Central Business District (CBD).

This dynamic Infecting the City Festival is set to energise, shake up and fascinate Cape Town from 21 to 26 February 2011.

With a contagion of provocative, high quality and innovative public art, Infecting The City 2011 - titled Treasure - will showcase, re-imagine and burst open Cape Town and South Africa's trove of different and sometimes hidden cultures, traditions and heritages in the mesmerising way that only Infecting the City can do.

The Cape Town Station Forecourt is the Festival Hub, which will be buzzing with activity from 08:15 to 17:30 each day. Get there during lunchtime (from 13:00 to 14:00) to see one of the bands performing on the Music Gem Stage. The station is also the place to view the visual art in the Satellite Galleries. While you’re at it make a turn past Golden Eggs: Sick Hens, an urban shack instalment.

Several tours start from the Festival Hub: Relics of Place, First Class Treasures and the Treasure Hunt (SMS Treasure and your name to 32565 and wait for your first clue). There is a Festival Info Desk next to the white container, here you’ll find out all you need to know about the festival.

The Jewel Stages will have a performance twice a day, at 11:00 and 13:10. Consult the Festival Map to be in the right place at the right time.

Also look out for the public artworks in the city: Watermarks, The Ministry for The glorious Preservation of the Kultural Treasures of the Mother City, The Number 1 Unexpected Undercover Cleaning Agency and Invisible Gold.
