Moyo Kirstenbosch Winter Concert Series
A line-up of top-class live music performances sure to brighten up frosty ...
Nominated as one of the 10 best wine festivals in South Africa, the three-day Hermanus Wine and Food Fair at the Hemel-en Aarde Wine Village will run from Thursday, 9 August until Saturday, 11 August 2012.
Catering for the young, old, the coupled-up and the singles with delicious wine and moreish food tastings, music and entertainment, child-friendly activities, “designated Dave’s” (in the form of Percy Tours) and breathtaking views this fair certainly has something for everyone.
With over 200 wines to choose from, festival-goers can purchase their favourite vino at cellar prices, and can take home sought after reds and whites for a nightcap, or can have the bottles shipped anywhere in the world. They’re not kidding when they say anywhere, as they proudly proclaim to have sent wine to every continent, even Antarctica!
Bring friends and family – there’s a kiddies’ activity centre for the little ones - and be sure to make use of the designated driver transport available if you’re planning on sampling the better half of the 50 exhibiting wineries’ offerings.
Hermanus is already known as one of the best spots in the Cape to have a whale of a time (we couldn’t resist), and this festival is an example of the range of lifestyle activities that have grown in this Overberg hub. What’s more, the fair is a celebration of the development of the wine culture within this region, as it has grown enormously over the years – they started with six producers as far back as 1998, and now proudly boast over 70.
Food at the Fair
There will be a food court at the fair which will include food stalls offering delicious tastings of fresh, local, culinary creations, as well as meals. Additionally, there will be loads of snacks and goodies available for purchase, such as hand-made cheeses, olive products and more, as well as mouth-watering creations by the Hemel-en-Aarde Village Restaurants, which include:
Wines on showcase at the wine marquee:
The wines available for tasting at this festival are mostly from the Elgin to Elim area; this provides a unique opportunity to sample a range of wines from the Overberg region. Some names to look out for include:
Say no to drinking and driving
This fun-filled festival aims to stay a light-hearted and relaxing event, and thus transport is available through Percy Tours and their luxury fleet of minibuses. Visit Percy Tours to organise your responsible transport for the festival.
Tickets for the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair
Tickets are available through Computicket or at the door, and range from R95p/p per day to R200p/p for a three-day pass. The ticket price includes: wine tasting, a free glass, an informative booklet on all the wine producers and free entrance to gourmet food tent, kiddies activity centre and food wine and beer bar.
Please Note: There is no ATM at the venue.
