In recent decades, sharks have become a persecuted and threatened species, and man has endangered this magnificent creature's existence. Today, through conservation and education, this misaligned image is changing.
The Festival of the Great White Shark in Gansbaai is a celebration of this change and will create the opportunity for the world to come together, to Gansbaai to the Great White Shark Capital of the World.
The Gansbaai White Shark Festival will be dedicated to educating the public about sharks and the importance of shark conservation, through interactive and hands on programs aimed especially at our youth.
Objectives of the Great White Shark Festival
* To accomplish education, awareness and protection of the Great White Shark
* To create a mini Indaba where local businesses can introduce their product and generate business into the local area. One day to be set aside exclusively for local regional and international tour operators to attend the White shark Festival to gather material and packages
* To generate employment for the local community and eco tourism industry
* To attract international scientists and shark enthusiasts as well as our target market
* To encourage research to the benefit of the shark and the shark viewing industry
Great White Shark Protection Foundation
The Great White Shark Protection Foundation was founded in 2001. The foundation acts on behalf of all Shark Cage Diving Operators who form this foundation.
The foundation acts to promote the conservation of Great White Sharks globally and to promote research and education. The Great White Shark Protection Foundation is accredited by the Department of Evironmental affairs and tourism.
