Gourmet picnics at Warwick Estate
The best way to spend your Thursday in the Cape winelands
Warwick Wine Estate is situated between Stellenbosch and Klapmuts in the Cape winelands and is famously known for their gourmet picnics, so there is no excuse to not go and experience what many already have and continue to do.
And we're not the only ones who think so; Warwick has been chosen as the number one spot for picnics by the April 2011 issue of CondeNast's House & Garden.
While the picnic facilities at Warwick also holds promise – besides the spacious lawn, they’ve built a couple of picnic pods that sit like bird‘s nests amongst the trees overlooking the lake and the mountains in the distance - and it’s nice and cosy in front of the fireplace on a winter’s day. The Cape Dutch building that holds the Warwick Bistro dates from 1771 when the farm was still named De Goede Sukses (Good Success). It is also a national monument.
Picnic snacks fill the spaces in between sips of wine perfectly. Enjoy a French loaf or ciabatta, with biltong and brandy pâté, snoek pâté, and a selection of charcuterie and cheeses. Plus there is also salmon, salads, brownies and more. You will say 'delicious' more than once, we promise.
