25 March 2007
Swap your Sunday roast for a laid-back sojourn in the Helderberg
Winelands when Eikendal pays homage to its sought-after grapes with a
vibrant Weintaufe Harvest Celebration attracting a fun-loving flock of
families and friends on 25 March 2007.
What started out as a ceremonial blessing by the cellar's Swiss owners to signify the end of the harvest, has evolved into a popular annual highlight on the Winelands calendar, with a host of leisure activities and unique attractions on the day.
Known for its acclaimed Chardonnay and superb flagship reds, Eikendal showcases yet another sterling performance of both nature and human intervention as visitors get to taste the cellar's first release for 2007, straight from the barrel. This Eikendal newcomer will also be baptised as part of the festivity.
It's as much a cheerful affair, as an up-close encounter with premium wine in the making. Eikendal winemaker Henry Kotzďż˝ will provide enlightening cellar talk with free wine tastings to visitors aged 18 and older.
Bring your picnic basket and blanket and claim your spot on the tranquil water's edge for a perfect ending to your weekend. Young and old are guaranteed a good time with live music, food stalls, a fully licensed bar, vineyard tractor rides, grape stomping and loads of kiddies entertainment to set a merry mood.
Let Eikendal take care of lunch and order your picnic basket from the farm's resident German-style restaurant, Harald's. Tempting with delicious cheese, cold meats and farm-fresh bread, this country delight also includes Eikendal wine. Each basket caters for two people and is available from R60 to R120 each. Pre-bookings are advised.
Entrance to the Eikendal Harvest Celebration costs R30 person and includes a free wine glass and tasting. Persons under 18 get in for free. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the event.
The event kicks off at 11h00 with the official baptism and tasting of the new Eikendal wine at 12h00.
Eikendal is situated on the R44, midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West and is a popular destination of both the Stellenbosch and Helderberg Wine Routes.
