Plus markets, fun runs and youth-led conversations (June 16)
The last Friday of every month is set aside at Rafiki’s bar and restaurant in Cape Town for a groovy evening of dub step (an ear-seducing evolution of drum n bass).
Behind the decks on Dub Step Fridays at Rafiki’s is DJ Niskerone, sometimes joined by a few other DJ friends to create a dub step vibe that’ll have you bopping all over the place in no time.
The guys at Rafiki’s describe dub step as “deep grimey bassey dancehall tunes with a tinge of slow drum n bass, with a Rasta feel to it.”
On Dub Step Fridays, Rafiki’s opens a third bar near the DJ area, so you will never have to wait long at all to get a drink. On that note, Rafiki’s cocktails are quite something – their Jamaican Slay Ride is probably the perfect dub step drink!
If dancing to the deep and grimey tunes is making you hungry, tuck into any of Rafiki’s famous pizzas. Some of their most popular include the Mother Clucker, the Banana Boy and the Inferno. All Rafiki’s pizzas are made with their secret tomato and onion jam – a taste sensation like no other.
The atmosphere at Rafiki’s is always a relaxed (and often quite upbeat!) one, with people from diverse walks of life all coming together to have a good time at one of Cape Town’s most famous hang-outs.
Depending on the night of the week, at Rafiki’s you can watch a live game of soccer, party with some of Cape Town’s best DJs (like Miss H) or just take it easy and sip on a few cocktails.
