Creative Week Cape Town, held from the 9 -18 September, has started as a legacy event for Cape Town’s World Design Capital 2014 bid. Now in its second year the festival aims to provide a platform for the local creative community to showcase their innovative work. The event builds on the momentum provided by the work of Creative Cape Town, in striving to develop the creative and knowledge economy in Cape Town.
Creative Week Cape Town is a user-generated event, which means that events are independently organised by participants – and that means you. Creative Week Cape Town invites individuals and organisations involved in all aspects of Cape Town’s creative life – education, arts, design, innovation, advertising, music and service organisations – to participate.
Events may include, but are not limited to, lectures, presentations, demonstrations and networking. The format is open to interpretation, so if you have an idea, turn it into an event.
For a more in depth view of events planned throughout the week including walks with graffiti artists, talks on how to be productive as a Cape Town artist or entrepreneur, photography exhibibitions, concerts, parking day ZA (when parking bays are transformed into temporary public parks) and if you are interested in adding to the creative spirit of Cape Town you can find it all on the website below.
The events also act as a fore-runner to the Loerie awards which take place from the 16th to the 18th September. The Loerie awards are South Africa’s premier advertising, communication, design and experimental media awards.
If you are a lover of Cape Town’s creative spirit then you’ll find the If Cape Town becomes the World Design Capital 2014 interview with Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, managing director of the Cape Town Partnership, very interesting.
For all creative events happening throughout Cape Town and surrounds in September we suggest you take a look through our events section.
