29 Jul 2007 - 3 Aug 2007
Port aficionados should diarise July 29-3, and set about booking accommodation now in the town or surrounding area, as this Festival is now for wine lovers.
A weekend break in the crisp air of the Klein Karoo is just one of the attractions: this year SAPPA, together with their sponsors Wine-Of-The-Month Club, are bringing David Baverstock as the Festival guest personality from Portugal to attend the event.
David is an Australian winemaker who has spent the past two decades making port and table wines in Portugal, both in the Douro and in the Alentejo region in the South, where he overseas the magnificent Esporão winery, as well as consulting for Sir Cliff Richard, who has launched his own brand of Portuguese wine from his personal vineyard.
David will present a tasting, both of ports and the "New Wave" red table wines being made in Portugal from port grapes: these will be tasted alongside local examples, including wines from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barocca.
There will, of course, be the usual opportunity to sample many ports from SAPPA members in the Tasting Marquee on Saturday July 30, followed by the popular tutored port tasting of local and Portuguese ports from a number of cellars.
Many other fun events fill the weekend, including sporting and cultural attractions.
