Want to own a T-shirt personally designed by Zolani Mahola, the lead singer of popular South African band Freshly Ground? How about one by Top Billing presenter Aiden Bennets?
Well, you can…!
Four bright-minded fashion design students from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology have come together and formed a project named UNI-TEE to raise awareness and funds for a Cape Town-based charity called MyLife.
This Cape Town charity focuses on getting street kids off the streets and rehabilitating them back into society.
A number of plain white t-shirts were given to famous South African personalities, artists and photographers, and each of them were asked to create their own unique t-shirt so it is a wearable piece of art.
These one-of-a-kind t-shirts will be auctioned off at a specially arranged event, taking place at Bonafide, 207 Long Street, on the evening of 19 September at 7PM.
The profits from the auction each of these t-shirts will be presented on the night to Linzi Thomas, the co-ordinator of the MyLife charity.
South African celebrities who have created T-Shirts for the UNI-TEE project are:
Amanda Laird Cherry - Designer
Gavin Rajah - Designer
Gerda Genis - Photographer
Farryl Purkiss - Musician
Mak1one - Graffiti Artist
Mantis - Graffiti Artist
Richard Huisamen - Hip Hop Fashion Designer
Roxy Louw - Model
Michael Merit - Stencil Artist
Gabriel Hope - Stencil Artist
Stefania Moorland - Designer
Aiden Bennetts - Top Billing Presenter and Artist
Zolani of Freshly Ground - Musician
Ard Matthews of Just Jinger - Musician
The MC for the evening will be up-and-coming Cape Town comedian Paul Snodgrass.
Any T-shirts that are not sold on the night will remain available for purchase.
For more information about the event, the UNI-TEE project or the t-shirts themselves, contact Ondine Corewijn on 082 339 7788.
