Capetonians are, once again, encouraged to summon the gees in support of Bafana Bafana as the national team takes on Norway in a friendly football match at the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point on Tuesday, 8 January 2013.
The battle between South Africa and Scandinavia’s best will be the teams’ second since the 2009 meeting when our boys walked away victorious. The score? Two to one.
While both teams are hoping for a win, each side is also using the game as much-needed preparation for approaching tournaments. Fresh off a loss against reigning African champions Zambia, Bafana Bafana will use the opportunity to hone their attack and cement their defence before the African Cup of Nations in 2013 (which starts two weeks after the match).
Similarly, the Norwegians are using the contest as preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to take place in March 2013.
Though, the Scandinavians aren’t making the long journey just for one game, nor are they using the match as a means to escape the icy grips of Europe in exchange for lazy beach days in sunny Cape Town. The Norway Team – currently ranked 26th on the FIFA world ranking – is, in fact, setting up camp in the Mother City to train for the upcoming football season. Besides extolling the warmer climate, Norwegian team manager Nils Johan Semb applauds the country on its solid football infrastructure and famous hospitality; the Norway football team will be training in Cape Town with Ajax.
The match is bound to bring back the vibe and excitement that filled the country during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Tickets have been made super affordable, and organisers expect to see 55,000 fans descend on the Cape Town Stadium.
Tickets for the 2013 Bafana Bafana vs Norway football match

Road closures and public transport
The city centre will experience an influx of spectators, so be vigilant and get low-down on the road closures and public transport for the Bafana Bafana vs Norway match.
