Bacardi: Party like it’s the 1920s

Bacardi celebrates 150 years with a 1920s Prohibition themed party at Casa Blanca.

Bacardi is celebrating its 150th birthday this year, and no, I can’t tell you how many dancing cats that equates to, but I can tell you that they will be throwing two 1920s-themed Prohibition parties in South Africa: one in Cape Town on Saturday 14th April and another in Johannesburg on Friday 13th April.

The Cape Town Bacardi 1920s party will be held at Sea Point’s stylish Casa Blanca on Saturday 14th April. 

The Johannesburg leg of the party will take place on Friday the 13th April at Taboo, and tickets include a complimentary black cat, indoor umbrella and a ladder laden VIP entrance.

The party will pay homage to the Bacardi legacy, the love for the Cuban rum resonating so strongly with thousands of fun-loving Americans that during Prohibition many jet-setted to the Caribbean nation just to get their hands on a cocktail.  Party goers will no doubt be treated to 1920s swing infused electronic music – a sound that’s found a following among clubbers around the world of late, and that, perhaps serendipitously, points to the timelessness of Bacardi’s tasty blend.

Dress to impress - ladies, this means flapper-style dresses, bob haircuts and a touch of bohemian panache; gentlemen, this means Oxford Bags trousers and high-wasted jackets along with your best hat. Those who can’t bother to put in the extra effort will  be charged a roaring R20  more at the door.
