Winter in Cape Town always brings out the best comedy events. The Vodacom Funny Festival, Marc Lottering at On Broadway, Kurt Schoonraad @ On Broadway, Stand Up Comedy at La Med, Craig Davis at the Tafelberg.
Cape Town rocks with the best of South African comedy in winter. The City finally has its own comedy club again with Kurt Schoonraad’s Jou Ma Se Comedy Club opening in Woodstock.
Prepare yourself for some of the best events in Cape Town this July… The skinny master of observational humour and comedy, international stand up comedian Carl Barron, arrives in South Africa in July this year!
Chris Rock described Carl as ‘a dangerous man’ – someone he would hate to follow on stage as he is just so brilliant! Carl Barron is Australia’s best comedian – the master of comedy; and coming to Cape Town this July.
Carl Barron is Australia’s most accomplished observational comedy performer, a roof-tiler who got his break at comedy when he moved to Sydney and decided to walk on stage at the Harold Park Hotel one night. Barron has been performing to full houses ever since!
Barron’s natural gift at physical comedy and ‘comedic menology’ or one liners, has led him to be the most successful Australian comedian with the DVD release of Carl Barron LIVE which went four times platinum, making it the most successful Australian comedy DVD in history! On his most recent tour to the Sydney Opera House he sold out a record breaking number of shows.
Barron’s non-threatening observational style of comedy appeals to everyone, with his gentle, awkward, self-conscious, relaxed and original approach to comedy.
Stand-up comedian Carl Barron in Cape Town:
Date: 14 – 19 July 2008
Venue: Baxter Theatre
Location: Rondebosch,Cape Town
What is Observational Comedy you ask? Well we have the answer.
Observational comedy is a style of humour based on making remarks about various facets of everyday life.
This style of comedy was popularized in the United States by comedians like Bill Cosby, Jay Leno and David Letterman in the 1970's.
The humor, based on the premise of "It's funny because it's true," consists of observations made about sometimes very minor and superficial aspects of Western culture: from airline peanuts to the Aitkens Diet to the lines at Wal-Mart's.
Molo says: “Winter is most definitely the time for stand-up comedy in Cape Town and we could do with a few laughs to shake off the rain and the cold.”
