Constantia Valley in Cape Town, with 5 international  award winning wine estates,  is the birthplace of South Africa's wine industry.

The lucious and luxuriour suburb of Constantia  was named after the wine farm that was given to the first governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, in 1685.

It did not take long before the Constantia wines gained popularity in the western world. Napoleon had Vin de Constance in his cellars, and it is said that Queen Victoria requested a glass of "sweet Constantia" every evening after dinner.

When van der Stel died in 1712, his farm was subdivided, first into two, Groot Constantia and Bergvliet and  then again into Hoop of Constantia and Witteboomen.

Nowadays it is famous for some of the best wine estates in South Africa; Groot Constantia, Buitenberwachting and for example Klein Constantia surrond the luxury boutique hotels and mansions on lucious estates of Constantia residents.

Other highlights, apart from wine, include the Steenberg Golf Estate, arguably one of the most beautiful Golf Estates in and around Cape Town.
