The Knysna Lagoon is best known for its oyster farming, and it provides a safe haven for the endangered Seahorse and the rare Pansy Shell. The Knysna Lagoon is therefore a nature reserve, activities as fishing, boating, bait-collecting and other water sports are regulated by the Parks Board.

One of the activities not to be missed is a ferry cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve. Apart from that, Knysna also boasts many scuba diving and snorkeling spots, as for instance the wrecks.
