Originally a part of the
Company's Gardens (what's in a name..) Gardens has become the laid back
yuppy, lively upper part of Cape Town.
It's the beautiful and well preserved Victorian and Cape Dutch architecture combined with trendy 'cosmopilitan village' atmosphere that sets
Gardens apart from the other suburbs in the City Bowl.
Plenty of bistros, restaurants and café's are found here, for instance on Dunkley Square, a hidden quiet square with overhanging trees
and comfortable terraces.
Over the recent years, Gardens has
become a Mecca for lovers of life, fine food and good wine. The result is a
number of great value restaurants and cafes, for instance on
Cape Town's trendy Kloof Street, with its Vida E, Arnold's and Zucca deli.
When it comes to accommodation, Gardens harbours boutique guesthouses, like Hippo Boutique, or Cape Cadogan, and luxury hotels; Mount Nelson Hotel for
instance, since 1899 Cape Town's most distinguished five star hotel, set on
the foot of Table Mountain on nine acres of landscaped gardens.
