On Saturday, 9 September 2017, the Surf Emporium in Muizenberg, in collaboration with Missing Children South Africa, are hosting their annual Celebrity Surf Day. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and learn from some of SA’s best-known personalities, all for a really amazing cause.
According to Missing Children South Africa, a child goes missing every five hours in our country, and the organisation’s resources are often very limited. All the proceeds from the Celebrity Surf Day will go towards their efforts to make sure every missing child is found and returned to a place of safety If you can’t make it to the event, but would still like to donate, you can do so by purchasing a R100 raffle ticket on the Surf Emporium website, Surfemporium.co.za.
By now, I bet you are super eager to know exactly which celebs will be teaching you how to be the coolest surfer ever. Well, let’s start with Nik Rabinowitz. This local comedian is well known for being helluva funny, and always managing to highlight the humorous side of any topic. Next is Dale Steyn, Faf du Plessis and Morne Morkel, who are all internationally capped cricketers. These lads know how to catch a ball, but can they catch a wave? Let’s hope so! The next celeb coach is very at home in the water – it’s none other than swimmer Cameron van der Burgh. He is Africa’s very first home-trained world-record holder for swimming and he has also won a bunch of Olympic medals (none of them are in surfing, but still…).
On the day, you’ll be given a wet suit, rash vest and surfboard to learn on, plus you’ll be assigned a real surf coach (from the Surf Emporium). Once you’re in the water and ready to tackle some waves, the celeb trainers will make their way around the group and say hi to everyone. As this is a charity event, the aim is to get as many people in the water as possible, which means not everyone will get personal coaching from the celebs, but you will certainly see them!

If you’d like to make a booking for the surf lessons, you can do so on the Surf Emporium website (Surfemporium.co.za) for only R399/p. All proceeds from this event will go to Missing Children South Africa.
