Artscape National Youth Music Competition in Cape Town
The music competition at the Cape Town's Artscape Theatre helps to establish Cape Town as a cultural tourism hot spot
Cape Town is blessed with many jewels, one of which is the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (“CPO") and its very own Youth Orchestra.

The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, a professional orchestra of world class standards, delivers outstanding performances all year round, whilst the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, consisting largely of children from the townships, strives to ultimately fulfill the same levels of excellence.

Cape Town’s amazing Artscape
Theatre Centre is home to the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and together Artscape and the Cape Philharmonic brings Cape Town to the forefront by promoting the best young classical talent in the country through the “Artscape National Youth Music Competition”.

The competition is an annual event and the first competition which was held last year proved to be a resounding success and the excellence of the winners has proved that there is talent in abundance amongst the young people in South Africa.

The competition was sponsored by
the City of Cape Town to the tune of R150 000, and will run from the 6 – 11 October 2008.

The hosting of music competitions with support from the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra contributes to Cape Town as cultural tourism destination.

The existence of an orchestra and a Performing Arts Centre like Artscape is also essential to any bid for large conferences and conventions, which contributes to economic development in Cape Town.
