Enjoying (Night)Life in Cape Town the La Med way on a Sunday
Think there’s nowhere to party in Cape Town on a Sunday? Think again. Head to La Med in Clifton on any given Sunday afternoon and you’d be fooled into thinking it was a Saturday night. Indeed La Med is synonymous with Sunday sundowners in the Mother City. While everyone else is winding down at home before the work week, the La Med crowd is still going strong, finishing their weekend off with a bang.
As part of the Glen Country Club in Clifton, La Med is always filled with beautiful people ... and sometimes their parents. Beach revellers move from the lazy beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton to this simple seaside venue for a well-deserved cocktail and tasty nibbles. Drink in hand, it’s the perfect place to sit back, relax, and watch the sunset.
Go early, stay late
Get there early enough and you’ll score one of the coveted sofa seats. Big comfy pine couches with soft white cushions await the early bird or those who book. Get there a little later to snag a wooden picnic table with an umbrella. Trust us, it can get packed as the evening goes on, so it’s best to mission through as early as possible.
Expecting a big group? La Med has a VIP area that can be reserved for larger parties. It’s kitted out with a mist spray system, plenty of seating and umbrellas to make sure you’re the coolest people around.
Once you’re sorted with a table, order drinks and bites and indulge in the La Med way – doing as little as possible for as long as possible.
For groups of 3 or more – heck even 2 people – we recommend the cocktail jugs. At R95 they’re a bargain and the perfect choice for thirsty tables that don’t want to call the waiter every few minutes. If you’re feeling a little peckish, share one of their tasty pizzas – R35 for a flavourful margarita. For something a little heartier try the deep fried calamari at R65 a portion.
From sundown to sun-up
After dark, La Med transforms into a party place of note. From atop his stage, the DJ spins popular tracks that keep the crowds partying till dawn. But even with the bumping beats and the dizzy dancing, La Med still maintains its laid-back feel.
La Med is open for lunch and dinner from 12:00 till late Monday to Friday and for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 09:00 till late on Saturdays and Sundays.
