Four Cape Town Cyclists to Take on Africa's ...
Until the World Cup starts
On Saturday 10 January 2009, Kenilworth Race Course will be transformed into a setting where haute couture fashion, vintage cars, fine wine and the country's finest thoroughbreds take centre stage with the 148th running of the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate.
The L'Ormarins Queen's Plate echoes an era of past refinement and grandeur complementing the opulent brand village and Jameson Gold Style-Lounges.
This historic horse race was first held in 1861 in honour of Queen Victoria. When she died, the race became the King's Plate during the reigns of Edward VII and George VI, but reverted to its original name in 1953 after the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.
The main race of the day will be Race 8 - the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate (WFA, Grade 1), raced over 1600m and with a bounty of R1 million. The horses running in this race are Pocket Power, Buy and Sell, Our Giant (Aus), Kapil, Vision of Grandeur, Float Your Boat, Thundering Jet, African Appeal, Alvaro (Aus), Quick Millions and Majestic Sun.
