Cape Town Band Captain Stu Unveils Upbeat Second Album

Captain Stu have released a new 11-track Afro-pop album, The Adventures of Captain Stu

It’s been almost four years since funky Cape Town band Captain Stu released their first album.

At the time most of the guys were still finishing their last year of school when they played to a crowd of 1400 fans. Since then the band has continued to gig around the country showing their longevity and integrity in the South African music scene.

The band launched their second album – The Adventures of Captain Stu – at The Assembly towards the end of February 2009.

The album features 11 new tracks blending together their musical influences to make catchy feel good songs.

They describe their music as afro pop with mixes of ska, reggae and hip hop. “The album is fun. We just want people to enjoy it, put it on to get a party going, dance around like an idiot and have a vibe,” says Nick Key.

The graphic design of the album represents old school 80’s arcade games. The band is lucky to have a bass player that is also a graphic designer who spent hours constructing the album art work pixel by pixel, creating pixel characters of each of the band members.

The songs are graphically depicted by different levels in a game. As the onlooker you follow the band characters through each level joining in with ‘The Adventures of Captain Stu’.

With five years of experience in the music scene, Captain Stu has definitely had some crazy adventures. They have completed two national tours, two MK tours, played at most major festivals and recently had the opportunity to support international bands.

In October 2008 they entered the Road to V competition. After a series of knock out gigs the guys got into the Top 3 as the judges enjoyed their ‘original music’ and the fun they bought on stage when they performed. They then supported Maroon 5 and One Republic at the Coca Cola Dome.

The rest of 2009 is going to be very exciting for Captain Stu, who are focussing on getting their album out around the country.
