Wine Tasting on the Lake at Lakeside Lodge and Spa in Sedgefield
Sniff, sip and swirl while cruising the Swartvlei Lagoon at this five‐star Garden Route gem
Overlooking the Swartvlei Lagoon – an estuary bordering Africa’s first official "slow town", Sedgefield – Lakeside Lodge and Spa (located about five hours from the hustling city of Cape Town) offers visitors an experience like no other. Every weekend, the five‐star hotel invites all – lodge guests and passerbys – to sniff, sip and swirl exclusive Benguela Cove reds and whites while slowly cruising across the unspoiled Swartvlei Lake.
INTRODUCING WINE TASTING ON THE LAKE
Available every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm onwards, the vino voyage sees groups of two to six people board the lodge’s Lady Giselle pontoon boat and enjoy a scenic sail across the pristine wetland along with a couple bottles of Benguela Cove’s finest. Led by Lakeside Lodge and Spa Assistant Manager Karl Pietersen, vino‐lovers are in for an absolute treat and will learn not only about the various wines on board but also about the Swartvlei Lake, the region as well as the Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in Hermanus.
Pontoon passengers are welcome to partake in the normal wine tasting offering of any five Benguela Cove vintages or choose from the Benguela Brasserie and Restaurant’s decadent Chocolate and Wine Pairing or indulgent Liquid Gold Millionaire Pairing. The Chocolate and Wine Pairing comes highly recommended!
CHOCOLATE AND WINE PAIRING
Created by master chocolatier Jane Stuart, Benguela Brasserie and Restaurant’s Chocolate and Wine Pairing comprises four decadent Belgium artisan chocolates expertly paired with four Benguela Cove superior wines. Guests can expect to try a dark Belgium chocolate with a lemon ganache filling paired with Benguela Cove’s elegant Sauvignon Blanc, a milk Belgium chocolate with a honey and almond filling paired with the estate's 2014 Chardonnay, a dark Belgium chocolate with a peppery ganache filling paired with a 2013 Benguela Cove Matilda’s Secret and to finish off a dark Belgium chocolate with a (very) hot chilli ganache filling paired with the Benguela Cove 2012 Shiraz. An incredible explosion and adjustment of flavours that can truly only be comprehended once experienced!
LIQUID GOLD MILLIONAIRE PAIRING
Benguela Cove’s Noble Late Harvest and Matilda’s Secret natural sweet wine each paired with artisan millionaire shortbread – an indulgent multi‐textured dark chocolate, gooey caramel and crumbly biscuit delight.
TIP: The Lakeside Lodge and Spa is located in the unspoiled Wilderness National Park and the Swartvlei Lagoon is a wetland of international importance complete with a small, but rich game and bird life. Keep an eye out for buck, dassies and bush pigs as well as sun birds, herons, fish eagles and kingfishers whilst visiting the lodge.
