What to do on Heritage Eve

This Heritage Week, Tuesday is the new Friday, so come on Cape Town, let's party!

Tuesdays are not
normally party nights. But this week is not a normal week. It’s Heritage Week in South Africa, and Tuesday night – the night before Heritage Day – is guaranteed to provide plenty of party options even for the most discerning of party people!

Start the night off at the trendy Bang Bang Club, where the line-up for the pre-Heritage Day party includes the likes of The Dirty Skirts, Cokey Falkow, and deejays Atlas, Dario and Terrance – put your dancing shoes on – this one is going to be magic.

You can also round up a few friends and head to recently re-opened The Assembly on Harrington Street, where the organizers have pulled out all the stops to arrange a mega-bash featuring a top line-up that ranges from King of Town from Joburg to The Arrows from Durban, who are joined by local DJs Lapse and Kid Colt. It’s just before pay day, so they’re offering free entrance until 10pm (11pm for students) and R30 thereafter.

Then there’s the swanky Club Bambu at 22 Somerset Street in Greenpoint, which invites you to the launch of the “Four-Four-Thump” series of parties - R50 will buy you a night of pumping tunes and top-notch entertainment. This launch event features the likes of Dean Fuel, Pascal & Pearce and one of South Africa's most prolific bands - Jacsharp.

Mercury Live on De Villiers Road is having a “Bunch of Rock” night, so if you’re in the mood for some loud rock riffs and no doubt some crazy on-stage antics, this is a good option. Acts include KOBUS!, 12th Avenue, Black Market Riots, Dave Ferguson and Louise Day. R30 before 8pm, R40 before 9pm and R50 thereafer.

Chrome on Pepper Street is hosting a Heritage Day Celebration where you can get in for free (no matter when you arrive) and enjoy the sounds of international guest DJ Sven Böhmert from Germany as well as resident DJs Clint and Lyle who will be playing the best R&B, Hip-hop and House.

All this a bit on the wild side for you? Read through our overview on Heritage Day 2008 events and you’ll be sure to find something there that suits you.

How about Braai4Heritage, or a fashion show with Dis-Chem, a day with the kids at Iziko Museum or a poem-inspired love affair at Verses at Zula Sound Bar.

Have a read through our Cape Town events section and you will find yourself lost in the array of activties and events that you and your family can enjoy this Heritage Day in Cape Town.

Go out and enjoy yourself - which ever way you choose!
