Experience Africa Through Twenty Seven Years of Photojournalism

Encounter 27 years of historic moments and memories captured in time at this photo exhibition at the Clock Tower Precinct

Renowned photojournalist Nic Bothma’s photo exhibition “Twenty-Seven Years of Photojournalism” can be seen at the Chavonnes Battery Museum until Thursday, 31 May 2018. This visual showcase is presented in association with the European Pressphoto Agency.

Bothma’s solo exhibition offers a glimpse into the life of a wire photographer from Africa and includes pieces from the days of celluloid photography, in the era before digital technology. Bothma began his career during a pivotal moment in South African and international history, and he has thought-provoking pictures to prove it

Bothma captured countless historical moments over the course of his career, from the fall of apartheid to the liberation of Nelson Mandela and beyond. A curated selection of highlights from his extensive collection of photographs can be seen at the exhibition, including some award-winning pieces. Erdmann Contemporary took the curatorial lead on this project.

Some works are printed and framed in large formats, while there will also be images of Nelson Mandela that have never been published.

The exhibition includes a collection of interviews, articles and a digital slideshow of Bothma’s more recent works, as well as a presentation by the photographer himself.

The Chavonnes Battery Museum is open Fridays to Mondays from 9am to 7pm and Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9am to 4pm. The museum is wheelchair and pram friendly and offers free WiFi.
