Restaurants Open Till Late in Cape Town and Surrounds

No matter whether you’re out on the jol or just chilling at home, when the late night hunger cravings start calling you know you have to answer

Last Update: December 22, 2016

We have all experienced it. It’s 1am and you’re starving. You may be at home or you may not be. There may be food in the fridge or there may not be. Whatever the situation, when you’re hungry, you’re hungry and it’s time to eat. Right now. But trying to find a restaurant that is open past midnight in Cape Town can be rather tricky and let’s face it those generic fast food chains don’t always cut it.

Because we feel your (hunger) pain we have put together a selection of late-night eateries – that is not your average 24-hour [insert fast food joint name here] – that serves glorious food options until all hours of the morning.

Franky’s Diner
Situated in the heart of Sea Point, this authentic 50s-style eatery serves up a mean burger, fries and shake all day, every day. No matter the time, customers are invited to sit back, relax and listen to some awesome tunes by the likes of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and other music legends from that era. Take a seat at the counter on the comfy red vinyl stools or cuddle up close in the back booth, Franky’s doors are open 24/7 – that is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What’s more, Franky’s offers its customers the ultimate eating challenge in the form of the Chubby Burger. Competitors must devour the enormous hamburger – six beef patties, bacon, cheese, jalapeno chillies and fries plus all the trimmings – in less than 10 minutes. If you defeat the monstrous bun-and-six-patty combo not only is your meal FREE, but your name is also written on Franky’s wall of fame and you get a t-shirt to prove it!
NOTE: Franky’s Diner is licensed to sell liquor until 4am.

The dough, sauces, cheeses and equipment are of the same high quality as one would find in a pizza haunt in the Big Apple. With a key focus on freshness, NY Slice Pizza uses only whole milk mozzarella and ensures that each batch of authentic NYC dough is prepared on the day of serving. Patrons can choose from five different pizzas; Manhattan, Pepperoni, Staten Island, Soho and Buffalo Chicken. Single slices range in price between R21 and R26, while pies and whole pizzas (+50cm) cost between R143 and R198. The Café Grill at the Twelve Apostles
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week this alfresco-style restaurant offers a tranquil and casual dining experience where patrons can enjoy majestic views of the mountains and the sea from the comfort of their seat. Their flexible Californian-inspired menu boasts a wide range of delicious food, including sandwiches, burgers, salads, as well as grilled fresh fish and other seafood delicacies. What’s more, during summer the Café Grill extends their offering to an ice cream and fresh fruit menu, served with delectable honey crème fraîche. Their all-day breakfast comes highly recommended even though the menu is small. Never mind that cheese burger at 3am, now you can have light and fluffy scrambled eggs or, better yet, eggs Benedict served with streaky bacon and Hollandaise sauce at some random hour. Yum!

PizzAvanti
Are you one of those fussy eaters who spend hours deciding what pizza to order, only to choose one and still pick off half the toppings you don’t eat? If you can relate then PizzAvanti is the ultimate pizzeria for you! Not only is the little West Coast eatery open every day until 6am, making it ideal for all those late night/early morning beachfront jollers, but it also gives you the option to make your own pizzas (perfect for finicky diners). For those who enjoy the good ol’ favourites (or who simply can’t decide what toppings they want from the extensive list available) PizzAvanti does a mean job of the traditionals, think  Regina, Four Seasons, BBQ Chicken and Vegetarian. A medium pizza will set you back about R60 and a large one R80.
