Knife Restaurant

Serving Succulent Baby Back Ribs and Creole Cooking – and Something Extra for you Birthday

Knife is where you bring everyone – your great love, trusted friends, family and business partners

After eight years, Knife in Century City, is now as much of an institution as its sister restaurant Fork in town. And this northern suburbs steakhouse has gained a stellar reputation for special occasions.

Knife caters as beautifully to couples seeking a cosy nook as it does to groups looking for a booth for a blow-out birthday, or the office party in need of space for a year-end function.

COME ONE, COME ALL
Just as Fork sits pretty on legendary Long street, Knife’s Corner Century Boulevard location means it’s only about a 15-minute drive from the Cape Town CBD.  And because it sits at the back of the Crystal Towers Hotel, it retains a feel of intimacy.

While its wooden tables, leather booths and wallpaper of adorable children devouring ribs and licking their fingers to savour the sweet flavour, say, “Everyone’s welcome here”, Knife remains smart and sophisticated.

“There are a million steakhouses in South Africa, and Knife is not just another bog-standard one,” says owner Ed Saunders. What it is, is an American-style steakhouse with some Louisiana influence.

RIBS, STEAKS AND GOOD CREOLE COOKING
Knife has gumbo on the menu, the American South Creole stew. It’s a fragrant, indulgent and spicy combination of mussels, chicken, chorizo and prawns, served on a bed of rice, so you’re able to soup up all the flavour in the tomato-based stew.

But people really come for Knife’s ribs. They’re oaked-smoked (in Knife’s own smoker) and marinated in their homemade barbeque sauce. Eating the baby back pork ribs is a sweet succulent mess – which is why they are served with sides and an apron.

More Southern specialties include the chicken and waffles, served with maple syrup, and the Creole fish cakes. There’s a honey-and-ginger roasted sweet potato with avocado, pumpkin seeds and baby leaf salad; steaks cut from 28-day aged beef; and burgers named after some of the Southern states.

FOR EVERY OCCASION YOU CAN THINK OF
They say Southern cooking is the best of American cuisine, so clearly Knife is where you bring your group of American friends lusting for a taste of home. It’s where you come when you think of celebrations – period – because Knife caters for two up to 200 seated, and they can accommodate far more for a casual, stand-around function. They have a birthday special too, which comes with an added treat if you are a CapeTownMagazine.com reader.

Note: Knife is closed during Christmas from 24 to 26 December 2018. It’s open on New Year’s day from 11am till 11pm.
